The Elvolution of Elizabethton High School

City High School was located on Lynn Avenue and was Elizabehton's first High School. This school taught grades 1 through 12.

1908-1925

At some point the school was replaced or added on to and eventually became an Elementary School for the Elizabethton School System.

In 1925 the first designated High School was built on Doe Avenue and accommodated grades 9 through 12. This building later became the T.A. Dugger Jr. High School.

1942 Brought the city of Elizabethton a much bigger high school located on the corner of "E" Street and Holly Lane. This building would serve as the Elizaabethton High School until January of 1974.

The New Stadium

Douglas School

After moving to the new High School, the students banded together and partitioned the city for a new onsite stadium for their new school. The city listened and in fall of 1947 the new stadum was completed and opened for Cyclone sports. The stadium was named Brown Childress Stadium and had concrete bleachers on the North side of the complex. There were exits through the stadium leading to underneath where there were restrooms and a concession stand.

Elizabethton Comprehensive High (1974)

Construction began on the current High School building in 1970 by the J. I. Cornett Cconstruction Company. On JAN 3 of 1974 EHS students walked into the new facility for the first time. T. A. Dugger Jr. High was also moved during the Christmas break and those students finished their school year in the “E” St. building where the Jr. High remains today. The Cyclone Football team would continue to play at Brown Childress Stadium for the next four decades.

The New Stadium that took 41 Years to Build

For four decades the Cyclone Football Team had to travel a couple of city blocks to practice and play in the now T. A. Dugger Jr. High stadium which virtually made every game an away game. Many times discussions were started about building a new on-site stadium at the EHS campus. Finally, after years of debate, the correct combination of School Administration and very generous support from local businesses and personal donations allowed the construction of the "Citizens Bank Stadium". The new complex is a state of the art facility for football, soccer and other sports. Complete with a turf field and quality seating, the stadum complex opened in fall of 2015.
